It is the highest mount of the region; how high do you think it is?

The region Marches places with the wonderful Monte Vettore after Abruzzo which hosts the Corno Grande, Friuli-Venezia Giulia with its Monte Coglians in the Carnic Alps, the Bernina which raises in Lombardy, the Monte Rosa in Piedmont, the Etna in Sicily, the Marmolada in Veneto, the Mont Blanc in Aosta Valley and the Ortles-Cevedale Group in Trentino-Alto Adige.

This is the perfect place to take a walk in summer or to climb in winter – and maybe to run down a ski slope for ski-tourists. It is located in the charming area of the Sibillini Mountains. It got its name from the latin “victor” – meaning winner – or “vector”, leader of its mountain range. It’s 2476 meters high and belongs to the municipality of Arquata del Tronto located in the province of Ascoli Piceno. Not far from there you can find the breath-taking glacial valley where the Pilate Lake – and its extremely rare little animals – is located.

Because of the presence of the Pilate Lake innumerable are the legends circulating around this mount. Along one of its transverse belts you will notice the presence of gravel that is the fairy path. In fact, the legend tells that the fairies stopped there to dance with the young people of Pretare and escaped at dawn not to be seen in such a hurry that they left their footprints on the way.

HERE you can find some pictures of Sibillini Mountains.
