What to know about Ortezzano (FM)
About 840 people live in the small town of Ortezzano, located 301 above sea level, towards the so called “blue mountains” (Sibillini Mountains). This lively village dates back to the IX-IIIcentury b.C (Piceni) and is named after Hotentius, a roman aristocrat who is alleged to have owned lands in this territory.
The economy of the village is mainly related to agriculture and activities connected to it, such as all the activities of transformation and sale of the products. The valley, Valle dell’Aso, is particularly fertile, therefore it allows a particularly exquisite fruits, vegetables and wine cultivation. Special mention goes to the wines Falerio and Rosso Piceno. Among the typical local products, please note the traditional salami and cured meats, i.e. the well famous ciauscolo, lamb and porchetta, as well as the hand made pasta (tagliatelle and “vincisgrassi”), and peaches, apples and plums.
Don’t miss the Gardening and Flowers Exibition (second Sunday in May), the Celerations for Santa Maria del Soccorso, including the “Infiorata”, a particularly colourful performance with flowers attracting tourists and visitors to the town historical centre (in June), Roasted Lamb Festival (August), the “Leccabaffi”, a festival of food and wine tastings (August) and the Wine Festival in September, that includes an historical commemoration of the pressing.
